Pontoon card game rules. Pontoon OBJECTIVE OF PONTOON: The aim is to collect cards with a face value more than the banker’s. NUMBER OF PLAYERS: NUMBER OF CARDS. RANK OF CARDS: THE DEAL: Players designate someone as the banker. TYPE OF GAME: Create a hand as close to 21 without going over 21. The hands are valued in the following order: a pontoon is considered to be the strongest hands, a five-card trick is the second and all of the five-card tricks are of the same value, a hand of 21 or less made of four or fewer cards and the last is the losing combination of a busted hand of 21+ points. Jul 24, 2015 The second best hand in this game is called a Five Card Trick. A player has a Five Card Trick when they end up with 5 cards, without going over 21 points. A Pontoon beats a Five Card Trick. A Five Card Trick beats a three or four card 21, even if the Five Card Trick is less than 21. Five Card Tricks are also paid double stake when the hand is over. Important to remember that a 5 card tricks beats all other hands except pontoon, if both players have a 5 card trick the one closer to 21 wins, if both are equal (which I have never seen) the banker will win.
